Overview
The 15-Day Vientiane to Hanoi Cycling Adventure is a grand expedition that traverses the very soul of the Indochinese peninsula. This journey is meticulously designed for the intrepid traveler who seeks to experience the profound transition from the peaceful, river-side plains of the Mekong to the soaring, mist-shrouded peaks of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range. Starting in the relaxed Laotian capital of Vientiane, you will pedal through a kaleidoscopic landscape of ancient mysteries, colonial charm, and raw natural grandeur, concluding your odyssey in the thousand-year-old capital of Hanoi.
This itinerary offers an unparalleled deep dive into the heart of Laos and Northern Vietnam. You will navigate the rugged trails of Phou Khao Khuay National Park, unravel the Iron Age mysteries of the Plain of Jars in Phonsavan, and find spiritual peace in the golden-roofed monasteries of Luang Prabang. As the journey turns toward Vietnam, the terrain becomes a playground for mountain lovers. You will cycle along the emerald Nam Ou River, cross the international border at Tay Trang, and delve into the heroic history of Dien Bien Phu.
The final crescendo of the tour takes you through the "Northwest Loop" of Vietnam. You will challenge your endurance on the legendary O Quy Ho Pass—the highest and most spectacular pass in the country—before descending into the vibrant ethnic tapestry of Sapa. Moving through terraced rice fields and staying in authentic local villages, you will experience the legendary hospitality of the H'mong, Thai, and Dao people.
