Overview
The Untamed Frontier – A Journey Through the Stone Forests
Step into a world that time forgot. Our 7-Day Northeast Vietnam Cycling Odyssey is a masterfully curated expedition that takes you beyond the reach of standard tourism and into the heart of the "Final Frontier." This journey is an intoxicating blend of emerald waters and monolithic limestone peaks, designed for those who find their peace at the top of a grueling climb and their joy in the blur of a mountain descent.
We begin in the lush, jungle-clad sanctuary of Ba Be National Park, where the serenity of Vietnam’s largest natural lake provides a meditative start to our adventure. From the verdant lowlands, we ascend into the dramatic, jagged realm of the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark—a UNESCO-protected landscape that feels like another planet. Here, the "Stone Forests" dominate the horizon, and the roads cling precariously to the edges of limestone giants.
The centerpiece of this tour is the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass. Often referred to as the "King of Passes" in Vietnam, it offers a cycling experience that is both humbling and life-changing. As you pedal along the "Happiness Road," you will look down thousands of feet into the turquoise Nho Que River, carving its way through the deepest canyon in Southeast Asia.
Beyond the terrain, this tour is a deep dive into the soul of Vietnam’s ethnic heritage. You will share stories and rice wine with the Tay, H’mong, and Dao people, whose colorful traditions and indomitable spirit are as much a part of the landscape as the mountains themselves. With professional support, high-end mountain bikes, and expert guides who know every hidden trail, this is the definitive Northeast Vietnam cycling experience.

7-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi – Ba Be National Park | Into the Green Heart
Leave the frantic energy of Hanoi behind as we head north toward the lush canopy of Ba Be National Park. Our ride begins on shaded roads that wind through tea plantations and Thai villages. As we enter the park, the air cools and the jungle thickens. We end the day at a traditional Tay stilt house on the lake’s edge, where the only sound is the evening chorus of the forest.
-
Cycling: ~40km (Rolling hills).
Day 2: Ba Be Lake – Bao Lam | Following the River’s Rhythm
After a morning boat trip to explore the hidden caves and waterfalls of Ba Be, we hop back on our bikes. Today’s route follows the Nang River, weaving through narrow valleys and remote hamlets. The terrain becomes more rugged as we approach Bao Lam, offering a taste of the mountain climbs to come.
-
Cycling: ~65km (Undulating terrain).
Day 3: Bao Lam – Meo Vac | Entering the Rocky Realm
The landscape transforms today as we enter Ha Giang province. The lush greenery gives way to towering limestone cliffs. This is a day for climbers—long, steady ascents rewarded by views of the "Stone Plateau" that stretch into China. We arrive in Meo Vac, a rugged outpost surrounded by formidable peaks.
-
Cycling: ~70km (Challenging climbs).
Day 4: Meo Vac – Dong Van | The Ma Pi Leng Masterpiece
Though the distance is short, today is the pinnacle of the tour. We tackle the Ma Pi Leng Pass. Every turn reveals a vista more dramatic than the last. You’ll feel like you’re cycling on the edge of the world. After conquering the pass, we descend into the historic town of Dong Van, where the "Old Quarter" still retains its colonial charm.
-
Cycling: ~30km (The "King of Passes" day).
Day 5: Dong Van – Yen Minh | Through the Labyrinth of Stone
We explore the "Grey Desert" of the Karst Geopark. We’ll stop to explore the H’mong King’s Palace, a majestic blend of Chinese and European architecture. The ride to Yen Minh takes us through a labyrinth of limestone pinnacles and pine forests, with exhilarating descents that will test your brakes and your nerves.
-
Cycling: ~60km (Technical descents).
Day 6: Yen Minh – Ha Giang | The Gate to Heaven
Our final major climb takes us to the Quan Ba "Heaven’s Gate." From here, the Twin Mountains rise symmetrically from the valley—a signature sight of the North. A long, winding descent follows the Lo River, bringing us into the bustling mountain city of Ha Giang to celebrate our successful loop.
-
Cycling: ~75km (Mixed terrain & long descent).
Day 7: Ha Giang – Hanoi | The Final Stretch
Enjoy a final morning ride through the outskirts of Ha Giang, absorbing the last of the mountain air and the smiles of the local children. Our support vehicle then meets us for a comfortable transfer back to Hanoi, arriving in the evening with a camera full of photos and a soul full of memories.
